Score 91/100 · Neal Martin (Vinous), Mar 2021

The 2018 Château du Taillan, a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, no less, has a well-defined, focused bouquet of pure blackberry, raspberry and sous-bois aromas, a touch of cedar and mint emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine bead of acidity and gentle grip on the finish. This is a fine Haut-Médoc that deserves its status. Worth seeking out.

Cru bourgeois exceptionnel .  85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.  Round, juicy and robust with a surprising minerally freshness. Red-fruit aromatics. Powerful, chewy tannins. Almost the same limestone-plateau taste profile as St-Émilion . Density and structure but the brawn needs taming. (JL)

A reliable estate located in the southern stretches of Haut-Médoc, newly christened Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel and owned by the Cruse family. There is structure here, with pliable tannins supporting plenty of firm black fruits, all given a twist by lilting rosemary and pepper spice notes. A low 33hl/ha yield on clay-limestone soils
