Ruby into garnet, the 2019 Barbaresco is perfumed with floral and spice, earth, fresh leather, cherry, and anise. It is approachable now, with fine tannins, juicy cherry fruit, a clean mineral texture, and no harshness of acidity. It is medium-bodied but fills the palate with fruit and leather, while its structure shows itself later on. Drink 2023-2030.

Enzo Rapalino's La Ganghija 2019 Barbaresco has a point of ripeness with blackberry confit and dried raspberry. The wine shows the typical concentration of the vintage with plump primary fruit and extra concentration. This is a lovely, bigger or enriched Barbaresco that faithfully reflects the qualities of the 2019 growing season.

The 2019 Barbaresco is powerful, austere and very tightly wound. Hints of spice, leather, tobacco and cedar make an appearance, but the tannins remain searing and impenetrable. I am not sure the fruit will ever emerge.

Treiso. Just mid ruby. Concentrated red fruit with a peppery tingle and a hint of iron. Sappy raspberry and cherry fruit with crunchy tannins. Lively red-fruit finish. A pretty, elegant wine. (WS)
