Made in a masculine, virile, full-bodied style with lots of density and power, the 2007 Providence is atypical for this vintage. Stylistically, it leans toward a style similar to the famed Chateau Trotanoy. Meaty black currant, earth, and forest floor characteristics combined with pure fruit and considerable structure make for a wine that requires several years of cellaring. It should evolve for 10-15 years.

Deep ruby-red. Blackberry and camphor on the reserved nose. Sweet but youthfully unforthcoming, with slightly reduced flavors of black fruits, licorice and bitter chocolate. I picked up a light vegetility but the finish turns silkier, without any loss of shape.

Quite deep crimson. Pretty rich and ripe on the nose in the context of the vintage. Very firm, even quite stern at this point, but there does seem to be sufficient fruit for the marked acidity and fine tannins. Needs quite a bit of time though – the fruit is still very simple. (JR)
