The 2025 The Florita Riesling is spicy and tightly coiled, water white in the glass and layered with notes of citrus pith, pressed flowers and marmalade. In the mouth, the wine is mostly tense and focused, while the middle palate reveals some richness and toastiness, which is an attractive offset to the acidity. This is very good, as usual; although as usual, I find myself wanting to drink this as an older wine, since that is where the joy truly lies. It will live for 20 years without a fuss. 11.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Paradoxically, this fierce beauty straddles the high-wire line between heady romance and firm discipline, embracing both the delicate floral perfume of a citrus orchard in full bloom with a steely spine, unwavering in its taut acidic corset. The flavour profile offers a vibrant palette of vivid shades, with mandarin peel over freshly squeezed lime and the tingle of lemon sherbet – rich, clean and speaking in an assertive voice. It’s a lively wine with electricity coursing through it, a tightly coiled spring that promises to release slowly in bottle over at least two decades.
About the producer
Jim Barry is one of Australia’s legendary wine estates. Based in the Clare Valley, Barry was the region’s first qualified winemaker and pioneer of the valley, which has since become a benchmark region for Riesling, as well as being home to some of the world's finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
