The 2002 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a reduced bouquet that seems to occlude the terroir expression, renders the aromas "foggy". The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, good weight and volume and yet there is little in the way of precision or mineralité here. Average. Voluptuously shaded ruby. Lively and scented with lovely sweetness and charm. Racy and sinewy. Masses of charm and fruit still. Great balance. Just the right side of fragile. Great polish and wonderful persistence. Archetypal mature burgundy with a hint of well-polished leather. (JR)
Spicy, rich and sexy and the additional time in barrel has definitely helped as this is now rich, sweet and very full-bodied with plenty of punch and power. The tannins are surprisingly fine for such a big wine and while there isn't great complexity today, I like the potential here.
Deep crimson. Very, very sweet and grown up. Rich and layered. Full and deep. (JR)
