Very pure cordial fruit, with massive concentration. Some stalky leaf tones too; a liqueur quality on the palate; massive fruit concentration, harsh finish – if anything a little over-reliant on fruit. (RH)

The 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a big, fat, super-ripe wine boasting tons of richness in its dark fruit, spices and chocolate. Despite its concentration, this medium-bodied Amarone remains the product of an average harvest and the wine's modest structure can't quite measure up to the 100% new French oak. As always, Allegrini makes one of the more accessible Amarones readers are likely to encounter.

The estate is best known for their Amarone, which is one of the fresher versions being made today.
