Score 87/100 · Drink 2002-2010, Robert Parker, Apr 2002

The 1999 St.-Joseph La Grand Pompee exhibits aromas of cherries, plums, and liquid minerals. It is slightly more acidic, delineated, and deeper than the 2000. The wine possesses a good, spicy, peppery nose, excellent freshness, and a medium-bodied finish. It should drink well for 7-8 years. Importer: Frederick Wildman, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700

Full ruby. Aromas of roasted cherry and leather. High-pitched, leaner flavors of cherry, berries and violet; quite tightly wound, even austere, today, with rather spiky tannins. Very much a wine from granitic soil. Firm, fresh and persistent on the finish.
