From Kate Dugdale's cellar, decanted on the morning of the tasting. Reddish tawny. Light note of coffee and dried red fruits, walnuts and dates, a little bit drier and more accentuated acidity – a little more volatile – than the 1964 just tasted but still with some sweetness at the core. Undergrowth scents. Gently chewy but resolved tannins and so fresh. Juicy, long and mouth-watering. (JH)

Lively colour. Rich, violets, only slight mushrooms on the nose. Very rich and thick. Admirably vigorous. Slightly dusty and austere. Very slightly dry but very lively. Long and rich. (JR)
This smelt oddly of caffe latte. There was sweetness and more than a suggestion of volatile acidity. The velvety texture seduced for a moment but the smudgy flavour started to break up in the glass quite soon to reveal more acidity than one would want. (JR)
