The dark-colored 1996 Corton-Renardes displays fresh blackberry aromas. This satin-textured wine is lively, densely packed with red/black fruits, stones, as well as herbs, and has a firm, tannic finish. Still youthfully backward, it will require a half-dozen years or more of cellaring. Drink it between 2007-2012.

Sauvage, musky, smoky, redcurrant-scented nose. Big, dense and supple, with lovely mouthfilling sweetness. Again, powerful but not at all hard. Rather massive for the year yet not at all heavy. This seems as powerful as the '95, but with even more fruit. Long, palate-saturating finish, with ripe tannins buried in fruit.
