Opaque ruby. Smoky blueberry, olive paste and violet aromas are lifted and sharpened by a spicy nuance. Pliant, ripe and broad on entry, then more taut in the mid-palate, offering sappy black and blue fruit flavors that put on weight with aeration. Shows excellent clarity and a seductive floral note on the finish, which features supple tannins and a hint of candied flowers.

Glass-staining ruby. Expressive scents of fresh cherry, violet and smoky Indian spices, complicated by a bright mineral overtone. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, with a silky texture and mineral-driven black and blue fruit flavors sharpened by vibrant acidity and a touch of cracked pepper. Finishes brisk and gently tannic, with an echo of spiciness and very good persistence.

Mainly domaine grapes plus some bought in. Will be bottled May or June 2014. This is where all less-than-perfect grapes go. Light and juicy. Much lighter and easier than the Domaine St-Joseph. Easy peasy drinking. (JR)
