Score 95/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Mar 2010

Bricked through to the center with a ruby core. A wonderfully spicy, still vibrant and elegantly pure nose that is displaying some aged burg aromas (but no sous bois) introduces clean, fine, classy and still quite powerful flavors that still display some freshness on the long and punchy finish. There is the barest trace of acidity now poking through on the finish but this is in remarkable condition at 44 years of age and it will easily go for another 20 years though there is no improvement in store. Note: this is clearly a fantastic wine but as good as it is, the '62 Bonnes Mares is even better. Tasted four times recently with three bottles fulfilling expectations and the other disappointing me somewhat.
