FINE+RARE, Mar 2015

This is one of La Morra’s finest vineyards with a sandy soil that makes for elegance above all else, and this has it. There is an immediate lift to this, and a delicacy that belies the power underneath. Ripe red fruits. This has structure and is very much a wine for the cellar. Very, very long and highly impressive.

This expression shows power, concentration and perhaps a little less freshness compared to past vintages. The 2011 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata exhibits a dark color and rich consistency, providing lots of spice, black fruit and licorice flavors.

La Morra. Mid cherry with brick caste. Intense, spicy and rich in both dried and fresh fruit. Baking spice and orange and great complexity in the aroma. Firm, chewy and deeply satisfying even now though there is more to come, and more silkiness to come. Tannins exerting quite a hold at the moment but no aggression. (JH)

Dark blackish ruby. Pale rim. Smudgy, rosy, rather voluptuous nose. Very sweet start. Then marked acidity on the end. A very strong statement of a wine. Marked tannins too. Dry finish. Wait. GV (JR)
