From a granite terroir just outside the village of Mauves (the vineyard is just to the south of the lieu-dit Saint Joseph), the 2013 Saint Joseph Lieu Dit Paradis has terrific granite character as well as abundant notes of cassis, violets, graphite and charcoal. Medium plus-bodied, pure and elegant on the palate, with a seamless texture and fine tannin, it makes the most of the vintage and while enjoyable now, will be better with short term cellaring and have 10-15 years of overall longevity.

(made from fruit grown in a vineyard in the granite-heavy region between Tournon and Mauves): Bright violet color. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of candied dark fruits, potpourri and peppery spices show very clarity and a suggestion of pipe tobacco. Palate-coating black raspberry and floral pastille flavors deepen with air and pick up a smoky nuance, along with a touch of star anise. Sweet, penetrating and pure on the finish, which lingers with strong tenacity and supple, harmonious tannins.
