Deep ruby-red. Extremely dark aromas of black cherry, licorice pastille, crushed rock and violet. Wonderfully rich, pliant wine with splendid volume and sweetness for the year. Still very young but already displays lovely sucrosité that's nicely supported by its energy and structure. Humbert told me his 55-year-old vines on soil featuring a lot of small rocks are not far from those of Denis Bachelet and typically yield a structured wine. The dense, lively finish features black fruits, licorice, violet and bitter chocolate.

This is more elegant than the Estournelles-St-Jacques. Chewy and juicy and generous but more red wine than burgundy. Still pretty oaky. It’s balanced but a bit overworked so that it loses identity. (JH)
