Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2023-2034, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2015

(a blend of 50- and 90-year-old vines, according to Dugat; 80% vendange entier ; this and the following 2013s are aging in 100% new barrels): Deep red with ruby tones. Blueberry, blackberry and licorice on the nose, along with a fresh note of menthol. Clearly tighter and more backward than the Evocelles; less minerally but more peppery. No shortage of power or thrust here. Finishes with a tougher tannic spine that will require patience.

There are two new barrels of the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux this year. It has a very floral bouquet, with scents of small dark cherries and crème de cassis that is well defined. The palate is ripe and a little chewy on the entry. There is very good weight and power here, although I prefer the delineation shown by the Perrières at the moment.

75% whole bunch, 2 fûts. Near Mazis. Very fragrant and thoroughbred. Great race and elegance. Then fine and firm on the end. Lots of freshness and lovely persistence. (JR)
