(50% vendange entier; from 50-year-old vines):Good dark red. Totally different from the La Justice, conveying lovely _calcaire energy to its pungent raspberry and licorice aromas. Intensely flavored and vibrant, showing good inner-mouth chalky tension to its berry and menthol flavors. A cool, high-altitude style with an intriguing peppery salinity. Really vibrates in the middle palate and on the aftertaste. (The Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru was rich and sweet but too reduced to assess with confidence. )

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin les Evocelles has a slightly smudged nose at first, though it seems to gain more clarity as it opens in the glass. The palate has a twist of sour cherry on the entry, rather reduced here and it seems to miss some substance towards the finish. I suspect this will be better after bottling and will seek to re-taste it then.
