(from 50-year-old vines): Bright medium red. Subdued red cherry aroma. Shows less early texture and flesh than the Clos du Fontenys but more saline minerality, giving it more sappiness and inner-mouth tension. This juicy, pretty wine finishes with a firm tannic spine and an impression of finesse.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petit Chapelle comes from the domaine's smallest holding at 0.25-hectares. It has a pure, tightly wound bouquet with black cherries and strawberry pastilles, floral tones emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is good nervosité here, tangible mineralité with impressive persistence on the finish. Very feminine and beguiling, this wine will only require a couple of years in bottle but it has the pedigree and substance to age with style.
