I hoped this wine would be even better, but this is still a wonderfully exuberant, fruity, spicy St.-Emilion with loads of kirsch and black currant, some loamy soil notes and subtle herbs. It is medium-bodied, graceful, fresh and best drunk over the next 7-9 years.

Light round the edges. Quite purple. Real depth. Quite gamey and animal and purple fruited. Sweet and easy with quite a dry finish. Very modern. A bit dry on the end. (JR)

Intense aromas of blueberries and raspberries, with hints of citrus. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a fruity finish. Refined and firm. Best in 2018. Mar 2012, www.jamessuckling.com

Owned by the Vauthier family, who also own Ch. Ausone, this large Saint-Emilion estate is the entry-point to the Vauthier range. It is an excellent introduction to the family’s wines and great value, offering an earlier-drinking style.
