Score 91-93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2016

(from vines on red clay soil in the middle of this large grand cru): Dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe aromas of blueberry, violet and spicy oak, along with suggestions of exotic fruits. Plush and fat with fruit, conveying an extravagant impression of sucrosité --and rather low acidity--to its flavors of cherry liqueur and chocolate. This wine will need time in bottle to burn off some of its substantial baby fat. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and a repeating chocolatey quality (one of the two barrels was new) that's a bit overbearing today. A rather exaggerated style of 2015 but many tasters will swoon for its sweetness and richness.
