The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Terres Blanches comes from vines on the lower slopes located close to the Route Nationale. It has a punchy bouquet with quite a lot of extraction for a village cru - bold black and red fruit that just need to show more finesse once in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with a lot of sucrosity that masks the terroir and whilst I can see its commercial appeal, for me, it just needs to show more complexity and nuance.

(there's more clay than chalk in these vines at the bottom of the village): Deep ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of black raspberry, cherry, licorice and spices. Juicy, spicy, pliant wine with an attractive restrained sweetness as well as good density and inner-mouth lift to its dark fruit flavors; less high-toned on the palate than on the nose. A classic village Gevrey with suave tannins and good length.

(this combines several vineyards from the south side of Gevrey). Reduction. The medium-bodied flavors are both bigger and richer with slightly firmer tannins that impart a mildly rustic character to the relatively powerful finish. This is very Gevrey in style and will require at least a few years of bottle age. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
