Score 94+/100 · Drink 2027-2040, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Bright, dark red. Wild, earthy aromas of raspberry, currant, smoky minerals, coffee, dried rose and spices; perhaps a touch reduced but at the same time explosive and alive. Wonderfully silky and broad but light on its feet; doesn't show the chocolatey ripeness or baby fat of some of these 2015s but seriously fine-grained and concentrated, with its terrific savory minerality accentuated by pepper and floral nuances. Finishes with firm tannins, outstanding slowly mounting length and adamant saline minerality. This should be long-lived.

Bright medium ruby-red. An iron-like note of reduction to the aromas of raspberry, mocha, brown spices, flowers, earth and smoky minerality. Densely packed, salty and extremely backward; impressively dense but still a bit mute owing to its reductive quality. But the wine's toothdusting tannins are very nicely managed. This extremely promising wine is showing its serious masculine side today.
