Quite rich and sweet. Nicely mellow. I don’t really understand why these two burgundies are so much cheaper than, for instance, the Chinese wines. (JR)

(vinified with 40% whole clusters): Bright medium red. Red berries, candied cherry, smoky minerality and a hint of underbrush on the nose. Then juicy and spicy but on the lean side; as intense as the village Morey but less sweet in the early going owing to slightly tart acidity. This finished its malolactic fermentation early in a combination of barrels and jarres (terracotta vessels that Magnien started using in 2015; see my review of Magnien's négociant wines for more information on this subject).

A discreet application of wood sets off the distinctly earthier and more sauvage dark berry fruit nose. Like the Très Girard the mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is velvety and succulent thanks to an abundance of palate coating dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannic spine on the slightly less complex but equally persistent finale.
