The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St-Jacques 1er Cru feels a little muddled on the nose, lacking the delineation of its peers, which is perhaps disappointing considering the vineyard in question. The palate is better, offering crunchy red and black fruit, well-judged acidity, fine grip and a lovely saline, almost brine-like note that percolates through the fruit on the structured finish. If the aromatics improve with bottle age, this will turn into a great Lavaux Saint-Jacques, though I remain cautious as it seems to lose a little energy in the glass. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Tasted blind, the 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques exhibits aromas of dark fruits, raspberries, coniferous forest floor and grilled meat, framed by a comparatively generous overt touch of recently used oak that turns somewhat planky with extended aeration. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, tangy and ample, with a surprisingly firm and drying finish that depressed my score. That's in keeping with how this Lavaux showed in February. Rousseau produced some utterly stunning wines in 2015, but this bottling is one of the weaker links.
