Medium red. Aromas of redcurrant and menthol are lifted by a violet note; not as black in its fruit character as most of Roty's Marsannay bottlings. Then spicy, saline and a bit tough on the palate, with tightly wound red fruit and licorice flavors showing a medicinal aspect. Salty and taut for village wine, showing little easy sweetness today. Finishes with rather compact tannins.

Very aromatic for a Roty wine. And round, fruity and accessible. (JR)

(an assemblage of lieux-dits ): Good dark red. Musky oak dominates the nose. Fresher on the palate, displaying a pliant texture and underlying saline minerality to the sweet currant and violet flavors. Not quite as dark in character as the best Marsannay cuvées here but supple and open-knit.

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a very focused bouquet with blackberry and raspberry fruit, a touch of licorice in the background. There is good substance here or a village cru, quite structured and dense, perhaps missing a little finesse towards the finish -- but it has a broad-shouldered charm about it.
