Score 89/100 · Drink 2003-2020, Robert Parker, Oct 1999

The 1997 Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette is excellent rather than outstanding. Stylish and elegant, as well as restrained, it exhibits a dark ruby color with purple nuances. The mineral, red and black currant-scented nose gives way to a medium-bodied, elegant wine with good purity and balance, but not the expected blockbuster power and concentration. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring, and should keep for two decades. Importer: Pressoir Deutz Winery, Inc., Arroyo Grande, CA.

Less saturated ruby-red. Distinctly grilled aromas of roasted plum, minerals and game. More concentrated than the above, but also much tighter in the mouth; gives a stronger impression of acidity and structure. Slight minty note. Finishes long, with the firm tannins contributing nervosite. May ultimately merit a 90-plus rating.
