The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin Coeur du Roy was cropped at just 23 hectoliters per hectare because of the venerable age of the vines. It has lifted scents of wild strawberry and macerated black cherries on the nose, with a pastille-like purity. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and good body. This is quite structured with a dense, with spicy finish that just needs to forage a little more flesh.

50- to 105-year-old vines high on the slope. 70% whole bunch, two-thirds new oak. Very ripe grapes. Lots of concentrated, almost brûlée, blackcurrant fruit. Almost vulgar it’s so chock-full of flavour! Very eye-catching. (JR)
