The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny reveals pretty aromas of dark cherry, wood smoke and licorice, its oak more integrated than the corresponding Cazetiers. On the palate, the wine is round, full-bodied and ample, less taut and incisive than the Cazetiers and more gourmand, with juicy fruit and supple tannins. This should deliver a great deal of near to mid-term appeal.

Good dark red. Reticent aromas of black raspberry, mocha and dark chocolate, plus a touch of gamey reduction. Sturdy and firmly built; not as fruity or elegant as the Corbeaux but a thicker wine with even more length. Finishes with serious but fine-grained tannins, an impression of solidity and little in the way of easy sweetness.
Bright, dark red. Wild blackberry, licorice and violet on the nose, plus a touch of game. Juicy, pliant and balanced from the outset, if not hugely concentrated. Conveys a strong impression of soil and more saline minerality than easy sweetness. The wine's rather serious tannins currently shorten the fruit but there's nothing hard about this premier cru.
