The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas, a Village not Premier Cru, has a delightful bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry and light floral aromas, hints of sous-bois /damp mossy bark tucked in underneath. There is something understated about the aromatics here. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite saline with a tangible marine influence towards the finish. There is something a little fermé at the moment, so give this three or four years in bottle. Tasted at the Domaine.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas offers up aromas of cherries, plums, spices and forest floor, framed by a subtle touch of toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, chalky and firm, with good concentration but a tauter, more linear profile than the 2017 rendition. It will demand some time.
Bright, dark red. Very dark, slightly medicinal scents of blackberry, licorice, spices and menthol. Juicy, spicy and tightly wound, in a cool, penetrating style. In fact, there's something a touch green to the purple berry and mint flavors. This high-pitched wine is going to require several years of bottle aging to loosen up a bit.
