Thick black fruit, furry tannins, dry and austere and seems to deny the generosity of the vintage. Tightly clenched. (RH)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Songes" Vieilles Vignes comes from 80-year old vines in two areas in the north of the appellation, blended with 70% whole bunches and raised in 25% new oak. This has a very lively and intense bouquet that actually puts the "Les Jouises" in the shade - vibrant red fruit intermingling with minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, well balanced with black fruit mixed with tobacco and graphite, with a sustained finish. Excellent.
