50% whole bunch, 30% new oak. Cask sample. Weighty and dense, though less so than their Gevrey-Chambertins, and there is a sweep of verdant herby character making it feel more lifted and fragrant. Long, perfumed finish. (RH)

The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru matures in 30% new oak with 70% whole bunch fruit from the 70-year old vines, which is the source for the domaine’s massal selection. This tends to be picked earlier than the other vineyard in order to obtain freshness. The bouquet is very refined and quite intense with black cherries, boysenberry and hints of liquorice lending an exotic note to the aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little foursquare in style (reminding me of a "mini-Latricières!"), but with fine grip on the finish. It will require three or four years in barrel.
