Inky ruby. Smoke-accented scents of blueberry, mocha and black olive are sharpened by a zesty mineral quality. Smooth, focused and gently warm, showing a light touch to the fresh dark berry, black pepper and violet pastille flavors. Silky, slow-building tannins add shape to the smoke-accented finish, which echoes the olive note. The fruit that would normally go into Colombo’s Marquee Vallon de Aigle bottling wound up in here this vintage.

The 2014 Cornas Terres Brûlées is the entry-level wine and comes from vines located around Jean-Luc’s house at the upper part of Cornas. It’s a soft, supple, forward effort that offers classy notes of black raspberries, peppery spice, toasted bread and flowers in a moderately concentrated, yet impeccably balanced profile. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.
