Score 86-88/100 · Drink 2023-2030, Neal Martin, Dec 2020

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines up to 85 years old. It has a sensual bouquet of brambly red fruit, undergrowth and light truffle aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, moderate acidity and decent length. What is missing is a little tension and precision on the finish compared to other vintages.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Slightly meaty aroma as well as the dark fruit. Meaty on the palate too. Firm, chewy, not much pleasure. (JH)
