Good deep red. Rich aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and smoky oak. Fat, succulent and sweet; more of a fruit bomb and less animal than usual for this cuvee Fourrier notes that he fermented this wine at a cool temperature, and that the animal character may yet emerge with bottle aging. Finishes with ripe, suave tannins and impressive building length.

(vines planted in 1928; finished its malo barely two weeks before my visit) Red-ruby. Reduced nose dominated by smoked meat. Then sweet but vinous, with deep flavors of dark berries, maraschino cherry and game nicely framed by sound acidity. Superconcentrated wine, finishing with big, chewy, thoroughly ripe tannins. These vines are in a rocky amphitheater that's cooler by day but normally warmer at night, due to the retention of heat by the rocks.
