Score 86-88/100 · Drink 2019-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2017

Deep in color, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has quite an extracted, candied, blueberry and black cherry nose, quite flamboyant in style but succeeds in retaining purity and delineation. The palate is ripe on the entry with blackberry and blueberry fruit laced with tobacco and orange zest. There is good density here, but you could argue that it is unnecessarily trying too hard.
