Sweet spice, black pepper, tight black and red cherry fruit and a touch of sappy character to finish. Grainy texture with crisp acidic lift on the finish. For a premier cru in 2017, it's relatively underpowered in terms of fruit concentration. (RH)

The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbé unfurls in the glass with a complex bouquet of cherries, raspberries, raw cocoa, candied peel and cinnamon. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and supple, with melting tannins, a succulent core of fruit and a long, sapid finish. From 80-year-old vines in what is arguably Morey's finest premier cru, this wine is one of the Côte de Nuits' best-kept secrets.

Domaine Henri Jouan - producer
Philippe Jouan

The wines of Henri & Philippe Jouan fly under the radar – and, with the current quantities produced (from just three hectares of vines), this is unlikely to change any time soon.
