The 2018 Petit Chablis, which spends 12 months on the lees, offers light green apple scents on the nose and a touch of peach in the background. The palate is fresh on the entry and slightly bitter, with short, quite punchy malic finish. Fine.

Exhibiting pretty aromas of crisp green apple, citrus zest and fresh white peach, the 2018 Petit Chablis is medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a charming core of fruit, racy acids and a penetrating finish. Seamless and expressive, this is an immensely appealing wine that comes warmly recommended.

Billaud's 2018 Petit Chablis offers lovely depth and textural richness at this level, all while maintaining a good bit of freshness as well. Lemon confit and lifted floral notes add a good bit of energy. I very much like the wine's tension and verve, both of which are unusual in 2018.

Vat sample but about to be bottled.  All own vines on the plateau above Les Clos grand cru. Very different from the Bourgogne, more herbal, and definitely crisper. A wild sort of green-fruited citrus. Mouth-watering, crisp and persistent. (JH)
