The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru is showing a lot of new oak on the nose that occludes the terroir expression, although there is plenty of fruit here and the oak should be assimilated with time. The palate is medium-bodied with bitter wood tannins that dry out the finish and leave the mouth feeling puckered. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Aromas of raspberries, cherries, espresso roast and raw cocoa introduce the 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy wine that's a bit firmer and more structured than its Gevrey-Chambertin counterparts, just as it was from barrel. This will require a little patience.
Mid crimson. Gorgeously ripe and fragrant with sweet and tangy red fruit. Intense cherry aroma. On the palate a little peppery and the tannins give a dry finish at the moment but this is so much better balanced at this stage than the Vieilles Vignes and the Corbeaux. (JH)
