The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Goulots has turned out very well, unfurling in the glass with a lifted bouquet of sweet red berries, peonies, orange rind and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and elegant, with a lively spine of acidity and a mineral finish, this is well worth seeking out, and it's one of the most classically proportioned of Fourrier's 2018s. Les Goulots is a steep, east-facing premier cru, and the domaine's parcel is shaded by the tree line.

Mid cherry red and even more floral than the Cherbaudes – lifted cherry and peony and delicately spiced. Freshness is more marked here, there's more tension and less richness in the mouth. Long and lovely, the tannins dry and super-fine, adding to the freshness. (JH)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru has a very ripe bouquet that flirts with sur-maturité ; hints of dates and fig can be glimpsed among the blue and red fruit. I would like to see more composure here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe, a little heady in style but retaining decent balance and freshness toward the finish. Not bad, although I have tasted better vintages in the past.

Thyme-like herbal lift, with ripe red-cherry fruit and well-integrated cinnamon oak notes. Any sweetness suggested by the nose is dismissed by the savoury, stony palate, with quite firm, peppery tannins. Needs time to show its potential. (TJ)
