The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru shows a little more volatility on the nose compared to its peers, a little diffusive at the moment. There is an iodine aspect that develops in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Good depth and grip, sweet red fruit tinged with marmalade, though it lacks the grandeur and ambition of Lignier-Michelot's Clos de la Roche. The 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was picked on September 7 and contains 50% whole-bunch fruit. It has an intense red cherry and crushed strawberry bouquet, touches of incense and rose petals emerging with time. I appreciate the precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very poised and focused, with a sorbet-fresh finish that maybe just needs a little more weight and density. Hopefully that will develop by the time of bottling.

About the producer
Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
