The 2018 Chablis Montmain 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with white flower and touches of yellow fruit, fine definition and focus. The palate is well balanced with hints of almond and flint. The focused finish fans out nicely. This is worth seeking out. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Chablis Montmain 1er Cru was vinified mainly in stainless steel and spent 9 months in barrel. It has a clean, fresh, slightly chalky nose that is nicely delineated and exudes much more Chablis DNA than the Village Cru. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity, and lightly honeyed in texture, revealing hints of dried mango and apricot. The finish is richer than expected. Very fine.
Green fruits and citrus. Ripe and herbal at the same time. Firm and richly ripe on the palate – at least in the Chablis context. With an attractive cedary flavour on the finish. (JH)
The 2018 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is wonderfully complex and nuanced. Spice, dried flowers, tangerine and hazelnut overtones add shades of dimension throughout. The 2018 is generous and plush, but also light on its feet, with veins of minerality that come alive in the glass. Ample and creamy through to the finish, the Montmains is so promising.
