The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs has a well-defined nose with brambly red fruit, sous-bois and just a touch of charcoal. The palate is medium-bodied with a tensile opening, quite steely at first and linear with a dash of white pepper on the finish.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs is completely de-stemmed and matures in 60% new oak. This has quite a precocious bouquet that shows just a touch of VA compared to the other samples from the domaine . The palate is very sweet and candied with pure black cherry and boysenberry fruit. Perhaps juxtaposed against the cuvées with whole bunches it feels just a little monotone on the finish. I might have picked this slightly earlier.
