Drink 2025-2045, FINE+RARE, Jun 2022

Red and black fruits, star anise, nutmeg, soy, Chinese five spice, bacon fat, meat, blood, earth, truffle, old library books, smoke, dare I say it, reminiscent of… La Tâche – a complete and utterly spellbinding effort framed by silky tannins, integrated oak and crunchy acids – seriously good.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Malans Réserve Privée opens with a deep and charmingly intense and delicate bouquet of dark cherries, mocha, toast and tar. Silky, refined and juicy on the palate, this is a generous, sweet and powerful Pinot with fine but structuring tannins intermingled with mineral salinity and tension. It's still young but warm and enormously generous in its juiciness. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from the decanter that was filled at the domaine in Malans six hours before the tasting in February 2023.

Intense herb-liqueur nose with some smoke and toast. Tightly wound and well structured, this medium-bodied Swiss pinot noir has been built for the long haul. There’s plenty of oak in here, but the fruit is still very much alive and kicks the finish quite a long way down the road. Drink or hold.
