The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a relatively simple bouquet with red plum, cranberry fruit and subtle earthy elements. It's classic in style, with a good use of whole bunches. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, finely chiseled tannins. There is a sense of symmetry here, sapid and focused with an elegant finish and pleasing residual pepperiness. Fine typicité and well-crafted. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Transparent crimson. Just a little stodgier than the perfect Morey but no shortage of fruit. Or of fine tannin. Carefully made. Enlivened more by bitterness than acidity. (JR)

The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru is expressive on the nose with dark berry fruit, sous-bois, just a touch of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, ripe red cherry mixed with allspice and white pepper, segueing into a quite a concentrated finish with a long spicy after that might deceive you into think there are stems here. One of my picks from Taupenot-Merme this year.
