Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Dec 2021

The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Sorbets 1er Cru came across rather over-ripe on the nose, a little volatile for me. The palate is sweet and candied, fleshy and very with touches of prune towards the finish.

The attractively named Les Sorbets doesn’t refer to a frozen desert but the rowan trees (sorbiers) which used to be found here. TA (sulphuric) 3.8 g/l, TA (tartaric) 5.82 g/l, pH 3.4. 35% whole bunch. 16 months’ oak ageing, 35% new. Cask sample. Intriguing, floral, violet nose, intense dark hue, plenty of weight here. Savoury palate. Firm tannins, needs more time to soften. A touch stalky at the moment. (AWH) 13.3%

Deep but not exaggerated purple. Ripe plums on the nose, this has not gone over the limit. A couple of chocolate notes mixed in with the dark red fruit, good acidity of course, considerable length. Attractive wine of middling density and good balance.
