Drink 2022-2024, FINE+RARE, Apr 2023

This wine is discounted by 20%, from £175 to £140. Domaine de l’Ile is a prestigious estate on the exclusive island of Porquerolles, just off the Côte d'Azur. Sharing the same philosophy as its sister wineries (Chx Rauzan-Ségla and Canon), Domaine de l'Ile has invested in a stellar winemaking team, enlisting the help of Pierre Etcheberry and celebrated winemaker Nicolas Audebert. The 2021 rosé marks their third vintage to date and is a blend of Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache and the native grape of Tibouren. Surrounded by wild, fragrant flora and exposed to fresh sea breezes, Domaine de l’Ile’s vineyards produce a delicate, precise and aromatic rosé. White peach, citrus zest and lightly fragrant white flower aromas swirl from the glass. The freshness on the palate is impressive; the fruit bright and chiselled, nicely countered by a creamy, textured mouth-feel. The finish is long, with a subtle salinity that leaves you reaching for another glass.

The 2021 Côtes De Provence Porquerolles is outstanding, with a clean, vibrant nose of white peach, orange blossom, and honeydew melon. Medium-bodied don the palate, it has a fresh, crisp mouthfeel and a dry, salty finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It's clearly an outstanding white and has tons of character.

Full, clear bottle 1,306 g. This is from the Côte d'Azur island vineyard now in the hands of the same team as are responsible for Chx Canon and Rauzan Ségla in Bordeaux and certified organic. Well done! Strong marine influence with a strong saline note. Medium-bodied and appetising. Fresher than many Provençal whites with a little carbon dioxide evident. Fresh, floral notes. (JR)
