Dried flowers, mint, sweet red cherries and anise give the 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru its distinctive aromatic personality. Bright and delineated throughout, the 2015 shows the more delicate, feminine side of Gevrey. In past vintages the Champeaux was often penalized by excessive reduction, but a decision to lower SO2 at crush seems to have helped. - Antonio Galloni

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux is matured in 40% new oak (or whatever three new barrels over seven comes to). It has a pretty, mineral-driven bouquet with granite notes infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, slightly candied entry. This is nicely balanced with good body and volume, though I hoped to find more finesse and terroir expression towards the finish that this premier cru vineyard can bestow.
