The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru is a wine that was difficult to read from barrel. Now in bottle it has come good with copious red cherry, kirsch and blood orange scents that are almost more 2015 in style than 2014. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, black pepper and sage. What I really admire here is the fineness of the tannin towards the finish that imbue this Premier Cru with sophistication. This is just lovely. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Arlaud retrospective.

(from vines averaging 43 years of age): Bright, medium ruby-red. Sexy meaty reduction to the sweet aromas of purple fruits, violet, lilac and brown spices. Supple and sweet in the mouth, showing lovely inner-mouth energy and perfume thanks to harmonious acidity. Nicely delineated, fully ripe wine with a firmly tannic finish that will require at least three or four years of bottling aging.

The 2014 Morey St Denis 1er Cru les Millandes was a little reduced on the nose and difficult to read when I tasted it. The palate is chewy on the entry, decent weight in the mouth, but it is missing the finesse and elegance of the Sentiers on the finish. Let's see how this pans out after bottling.
