This domaine bottling has an aromatic lift and richer fruit than some of the 2021s. The palate is juicy with mouth-watering acidity, moderate in body and tannin. Pepper spice, herbaceous tones and floral perfume complement the red cherry fruit, building to a decidedly savoury finish.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers more red fruit compared to Sylvie Esmonin: raspberry and wild strawberry with a light menthol note loitering in the background. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet ripe tannins and bright red fruit laced with orange pith and mandarin. Playful, perhaps not the most "serious" Clos Saint-Jacques, quite linear on the finish that decides not to furnish you with the frills of a truly great wine from this hallowed 1er Cru. There are only seven barrels of the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot), an attractively sensual wine evocative of cherries, plums, orange zest, smoke and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a sweet core of fruit, powdery tannins and a penetrating finish, its quality is some compensation for the lack of quantity.
About the producer
Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
