Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2020-2026, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2017 Santenay La Maladière 1er Cru is the maiden release from the acquisition of Prieur-Brunt by Jadot in July 2017. It has an attractive bouquet of red cherry, raspberry coulis and light orange blossom scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and probably the best grip of three Santenays tasted from Jadot. It feels a little compact and conservative toward the finish, but it should offer four to six years of drinking pleasure, possibly more.

Crushed strawberries and lilacs on the nose. Medium body with firm and round tannins and a juicy finish. Shows richness and freshness. Give it a year or two to soften. Better after 2020.
