Score 95/100 · Drink 2028-2050, Neal Martin, Oct 2025

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is marginally deeper in colour than its peers. It has an exquisite bouquet with red cherries, bergamot, crushed stone and wilted rose petals that unfolds in the glass. Less flamboyant than its fellow CSJs yet sophisticated and refined. The palate is well balanced with wonderful sapidity. There is backbone to this 1er Cru, though most of all it is the sapidity at the finish that is alluring. Superb. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Aromas of sweet berries and plums mingled with orange zest, spices and rose petals introduce the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, ample and lively wine that's pure and precise, with good structure and a penetrating finish.
